A site infrastructure senior analyst, Phillip Marress provides monitoring, support, and administration services for local and remote multiplatform environments for the Mars Corporation. Among his interests, Phillip Marress continually tracks the latest software, including Microsoft Office.
First released in 1990, Microsoft Office provides multiple desktop productivity applications that are widely used today, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. While retaining its core functions, the software is constantly changing, adding new cloud services and features, meaning users continue to find new ways to utilize its capabilities. Some of the newest services include Flow, for making workflows; Forms, for developing polls, surveys, and questionnaires; and PowerApps, for creating web or mobile apps.
PowerApps provides users with templates to build mobile applications, which makes it easier to develop new capabilities through apps without being a coding expert. The overall design is intuitive, with a drag-and-drop user interface that resembles PowerPoint in many ways. Using PowerApps with Microsoft's cloud computing service, Microsoft Azure further empowers nontechnical users. Through Azure, apps produced in PowerApps are easy to create and share to operate on Windows, Android, and iOS devises.
